INDIAs Got Talent is not just a Television Program but a real phrase which suits and is deserved by Countrys People we INDIANS.
This is a great news that once again another INDIAN have become a future personality and have Successfully Completed an Experiment that was never in a mind of a normal person. A female named Chitra Thiyagarajan has proved INDIANS are having the Best Brains by creating such a Technology which can convert plastic into fuel (some kind of Diesel).
Chitra Thiyagarajan has finally found out the Cheapest and very sustainable Fuel source for Future, by simply converting Waste Plastic Contents into useful Fuel Contents. It is also heard that Chitra Thiyagarajan has been experimenting since 3years, after which she got excellent results and now finally got patents for her Amazing Project.
Support for Chitra Thiyagarajan
Also heard about that Chitra Thiyagarajan was supported & guided by CSM Sundaram (retired professor of St Xavier’s College) who also said that Chitra’s success was a result of backbreaking work, persistence and ‘dogged tenacity’. Not only this but also Chitra kept on iterating the Designs and Researching all the time.
About the Experiment by Chitra Thiyagarajan
The Experiment by her is named as The Pyro-Plant that Chitra has designed is really unique and special which accepts all plastics but only excludes PET bottles.
Process How it works
- All plastic is collected in the chamber & heated in the absence of oxygen over chromium micro band heaters.
- The chambers temperature is raised to 350 – 370 degree C which starts generating gas which further passes into a different chamber with water coolants coils on either side.
- After this the Gas gets pumped into another compartment which is filled 50% with water.
- Then Fuel floats on the surface which is ready to be extracted.
- Finally, the non-soluble Gas passes into a condenser and can be used as an alternative to LPG.
About the Achievement of Chitra Thiyagarajan
The best thing about this project is that it’s not expensive and the whole process finishes the job in just three hours. A 5 kg unit costs about Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 3,00,000 for the 25 Kg variant. Each kg of plastic can produce about 800 ml of diesel. The Fuel can be stored, but the LPG needs to be used quickly. It cannot be compressed and stored.
Words by Chitra Thiyagarajan on her Project
Chitra says that a similar process has been developed in China; but it’s not as cost effective as the one invented by her. The invention has been approved by IIT Madras Chemical Engineering Professor, S Pushpavanam.
